The One And Only Secret Recipe For Success

A lot of people have been asking me recently how I have been able to become successful at promoting my websites online. I know people think I have some secret recipe for success, and it’s true.

I want to share this recipe with you. What is in my special sauce for success? You’re about to learn. You probably would have never guessed that these three things make up the tripod of success that I have founded all of my online businesses based upon.

The truth is, they are simple, and everyone can use these ingredients to create their own success.

Motivation

This is going down the typical road of success comes to those who are motivated, but this is not true. You can be motivated and lack the other two key components of this recipe.

You can also be motivated, but not motivated enough, or only motivated for a couple hours of the day. I’m about to explain to you just how motivated you need to be in order to succeed.

Grind day in and day out. If you knew that you would have to operate on only 4 hours of sleep a night in order to be successful would you still be motivated?

Most people don’t understand just how much their motivation is going to be tested when they get involved in Affiliate Marketing and becoming an online entrepreneur. Believe me, it is a grueling process but it is rewarding.

That’s why I’ve come up with a couple key tips to keep you going. I have personally used these, and they have kept me motivated to this day.

Read quotes from important or famous people. I know this seems stupid, and I know it seems like they won’t inspire you or that you are too good for reading quotes because you “don’t need them”. Let me tell you, I thought the same way. I now read quotes every single day, and in fact, I now post them on Instagram @incite.wealth to inspire others daily.

Quotes force me to stay motivated. I am able to remember why I started, and remember my end goal. These quotes from successful people who have been there and gone through the same things I have now gone through are important because they will begin to resonate with the struggles you are going through.

Look at yourself in the mirror. You should do this a lot. Not because you think you are insanely good looking, but so that you can reflect on who you are currently, and who you see yourself as in some set period of time.

I always go after the 5 year mark because I feel like there will be very significant changes every 5 years in my life, and that has held true thus far. Although things change a lot in even a year, 5 is a guaranteed change if you are a motivated individual.

Try this once, and tell yourself that you will succeed. If it doesn’t make you feel motivated, that’s fine, but I’m betting it will. Take it seriously, and do it every morning and you will realize that you have a much more positive outlook on your journey.

Intelligence

I’m not saying you need to be naturally gifted in mathematics, psychology, or business. I am saying that you should never stop learning and teaching yourself.

This not only helps you to create a more solid foundation for yourself, it keeps you young and relevant. One of the greatest businessmen to ever live, Henry Ford, once said,

“Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.”

Keep your mind young and fresh and you will be surprised at the innovative and creative ways that you come up with to build and scale your online business.

I personally have read every single one of these from start to finish multiple times. They have caused me to become a better person, a better marketer, and have allowed me to understand others better. Not to mention they are all pretty cheap these days.

Tools

Have you ever heard of anyone building anything without tools? Yeah, me either. You must position yourself somewhere with the right tools. I am not forcing you down any path here but I do have some suggestions for you. Let me outline the key tools I suggest.

First you need internet. I’m convinced that the internet is the future of marketing and if you want to become successful I believe you are still in the early adopter stage of the internet marketing life cycle.

Times are changing, and there is still 84% of the 6.5 BILLION people on Earth not using the internet. As this number increases over the years there will be unlimited opportunity for you to reach more and more users, create more and more sales and convert more and more content.

If this doesn’t seem like a wide-open market then I don’t know what would be the best market for you.

Next, you need people. Usually I would say you need to build a support system because times get tough and you need people to help push you forward.

My views have now changed. I say you need followers. You need people to surround you that are genuinely interested in what you have to say. Whether this comes in the form of readers on the internet, followers on social media, or people that you influence every day in person.

Build yourself a solid network and carry yourself with confidence. Believe in what you are selling and those who follow you will start to believe as well.

Last, you need a platform or product. Businesses are changing. You no longer need to be out there trying to create some new fancy gadget that you can patent and sell to a million people.

These days you can leverage digital content, leverage your skills and abilities, and create a product that can sell. I would encourage you to use yourself as your product, because you are the easiest product to market.

However, there are other options if you dig into drop shipping, eCommerce, or you can still create a physical something you are passionate about. These days you can become an entrepreneur with absolutely no money.

I personally suggest the best tool I’ve run across that combines people and a product. That tool is Wealthy Affiliate.

I really hope that I have given you a comprehensive overview of my recipe for success. These are the three most important things I can come up with.

The Best Affiliate Marketing Websites

Since I’ve been Affiliate Marketing I have run across thousands of affiliate links and opportunities to promote different products. What I have noticed, however, is how hard it is to distinguish quality affiliate sites from junk.

I’m writing this article to point out my 3 favorite affiliate websites and I will tell you exactly why each of them is fantastic.

I know that you can do individual product affiliate links, but I mostly go for networks due to the vast quantity of products you can find within an affiliate network. I would encourage you to do the same, depending on the content you are building.

I am not telling you to only specifically rely on these three sites, just leading you in the direction that will lead to the most conversions with the highest quality products.

Before we dive in, I’d like to mention a very important point.

Refuse To Sell Out…

This is the most important part of affiliate marketing. These days it seems as if everyone is trying to jump into the game of affiliate marketing.

Well how do you know someone is legit? Or that their product is legit? The truth is, you don’t… You can only use your best judgement and do the best thorough reviews of products with the information you are given or your own personal experiences.

When I urge you to refuse to sell out here’s what I mean…

Do not ever sacrifice your own morals and ethics to scam someone into buying something just so you can make a buck. If a product is crap, don’t pretend like it’s the best thing since sliced bread (Thanks Wonder Bread).

Usually people can see through your lying, and then when they use a garbage product that you have recommended guess who the negative traffic is going to reflect on… YOU.

With that being said, let’s talk about some of the networks that promote the highest quality products.

Number 1: Wealthy Affiliate

So obviously Wealthy Affiliate is my bread and butter. The reason being is because this network sets you up for success right off the bat. It’s free to join (as all affiliate marketing sites should be) and they actually teach you how to promote their product.

I promote Wealthy Affiliate not because of their great commissions, but because of the opportunity for success that this community has given to me. I can’t tell you how many times people ask me how I’m managing to host multiple websites, seamlessly, manage comments, write content, and not have a mental breakdown.

Wealthy Affiliate is the reason why. With all the back end hosting, email setup, and great support system within the community I almost never have a question go unanswered. The best part is that the founders are active members of the community and can help you along the way. Number 2: Clickbank

I think it goes without saying that Clickbank is an extremely dominant force in the realm of affiliate marketing. With the ability to filter the opportunities by average sales and initial sales you can limit your affiliate marketing campaigns to the most profitable ventures out there.

Clickbank also allows you to look into specific niches which is extremely important. I don’t want to be promoting children’s toys on a health and fitness website, and Clickbank’s filters really let you get right to the point.

The commissions are great with Clickbank. There is such a wide variety of products to promote that offer 60, 70, and even 80% commissions on sales. The profit margin isn’t huge for these products obviously, but if they are quality and they work then there is absolutely no problem promoting that product and receiving great commissions.

I personally know some bloggers that have turned just their Clickbank affiliate marketing sites into $1,000/day sites. I can’t tell you how insane this is to hear about their great success just through one affiliate marketing site.

If you haven’t heard of Clickbank, it is also free to sign up as an affiliate. I highly suggest you head over there and sign up for an account. Even if you never use any of the affiliate links that Clickbank has to offer, at least you will have a better idea of what the best platforms offer before you move on to somewhere with lower quality products.

Number 3: Commission Junction

Commission Junction is my third favorite. They are a little more exclusive and actually pretty ad focused. Considering I’m not a huge fan of ad placement I would say they come in at number three on my list strictly due to that.

I do love their platform. The exclusivity and feel to the site is important. They only allow legitimate sites to display content and promote products. the biggest thing here is that you won’t get crummy products if you don’t approve the ads or products you are linking to.

Here, you can share your business model and goals for your website or blog with Commission Junction and then advertisers can reach out to you when you fit their niche in order to market their products. This is important because you can directly declare your standards up front.

You can accept or decline offers, and some offers will still be spammy.

I highly encourage you to decline those offers. Don’t just see dollar signs and chase every ad you see or your site will begin to look ridiculous. In addition, readers will get fed up as I do when I am searching for new quality content to read.

Sometimes I am just interested in the story and when 5 ads are blasting me in the face I simply exit. I don’t need to read the content bad enough to fight through over ad placed sites.

There you have it!

The Best Place To Travel In February

Wellington, New Zealand

Knocking down on average around 2,000 hours of wonderful sunshine a year, there is honestly no BAD time to visit Wellington. However, we have done the research at Incite Wealth and are ready to tell you why February is the best time to visit.

Wellington is not just another capital city, it’s the leader in arts and has recently been deemed the most creative city in New Zealand. This is without a doubt one of the richest cities for arts and culture in the entire world and by our standards is an absolute must see.

In addition to doing our own online research, and having been to Wellington ourselves, we also had the chance to talk to a Wellington resident who gave us a few local tips. If you want to hear his suggestions, read on my friend.

February Weather:

February is without a doubt the best time to enjoy the outdoors. This is largely in part due to Wellington’s amazing February weather.

Boasting highs on average of 70 degrees F and average lows of only 61 degrees F you can comfortably venture outside and explore the cities vast landscape and beaches.

70 degrees is warm enough to evade the sweater, however, the wind in Wellington can get a little bit excessive matching that of New York City in some months. In February you may be able to avoid this but take a light windbreaker just in case!

In addition to the awesome sunshine you can also expect the least amount of rain in the summer month of February. February is actually the month with the least amount of rainfall and least amount of days with rainfall over the course of the entire year.

Considering that February in New Zealand is summer, you would expect there to be minimal rain, so this makes sense.

However, it is bringing up the back end of summer, so expect there to be a large influx of crowds during this time and be prepared to battle the standard tourist.

Cost of Visit:

The cost of your visit to Wellington can vary greatly. Personally I like to stay luxury, I’ve done the backpacker version of travel and while it is a blast to meet people and have fun, I like my privacy.

Depending on what you enjoy, I’ll give you the rundown on both options.

Backpackers Paradise:

If you are a backpacker, chances are you have minimal luggage with you. Just your pack and your own mental baggage. You may be extremely worn out at this point and just be happy with any old piece of mattress to crash on.

However, you may just be getting started on your packing journey and be looking for something a little more cushy and comfortable. Regardless of your goal, you can get into a place in Wellington for pretty cheap.

Average price of a hostel style place in Wellington during February is around $36/night. This is pretty cheap by American standards, and even for a backpacker on a budget this would be a good option. Book your stay here.

The YHA Wellington is the place to go for backpackers as you can book a shared ensuite or your own private place for a solid price.

Luxury:

Maybe you are with your family, maybe you’ve become successful on the internet as an affiliate marketer and entrepreneur like I’ve done and want somewhere that you can stay in style while still being able to work from abroad.

If that is the case there is quite a range of options for you. Cost wise you are looking at anywhere from $189-$309/night. Keep in mind these aren’t your standard hotel amenities and you pay for location. Some places like the Museum Art Hotel Apartments (as seen below) are right on the water so obviously the price goes up a bit.

There are some options that are still hotels but they come in a bit closer to backpacking prices. If that’s what you’re going for then The Cambridge Hotel below might not be a bad idea.

Things to Do:

Since Wellington is such a lively city and one of the busiest in New Zealand, there is no shortage of fantastic experiences to be had here.

There’s a few different suggestions we’ve been given on the top things to do in Wellington and we’ve outlined them here.

The number 1 recommended thing to do in Wellington was visiting the Te Papa Museum. This was personally recommended to me by the resident mentioned above. Te Papa is a great national museum and mixed art gallery that has everything from a bug lab to great cafes and shops within. If you take my advice and visit Wellington this is the top priority for your trip.
I was personally recommended the must-have Ortega Fish Shack. By American Standards this eatery is not too expensive. However, it can be somewhat pricey for those on a serious budget. Ortega has won multiple Capital awards within the city in addition to the Chef’s Hat Award. I highly suggest checking out their exquisite menu here.
On the western side of Wellington resides Mount Kaukau. This summit is quite the trek, so hikers will be in love. Even if you aren’t an avid hiker yourself, it’s worth the hike to see the amazing views up top. The hike overall is about an hour and can be pretty steep in some places. I would share a picture, but I think it’s something that you deserve to see for yourself.
Not far outside Wellington is the Matiu/Somes Island which also comes as a highly recommended destination. This is a historic reserve privately owned. There is no predator activity allowed so the wildlife is in great abundance. If you are an animal lover, there will be no shortage of that here.

Those are my top 4 to-dos in Wellington. There are really a million different things to see in such an artistic and amazing city. The Best Place To Travel In January

Miami Beach, Florida-USA

Ah, Miami Beach, the land of bikinis and tanned up muscle heads strutting around on the warm white sand.

Known for it’s beautiful 20th century architecture and abundance of models and celebrities, everything in Miami Beach will catch your eye. Miami Beach isn’t exactly mainland Miami, but it is a smaller island area just off of mainland Miami that is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world.

Miami Beach is a prime place to cruise the palm tree lined Ocean Drive, or go take a dip in the bath water-like ocean. It’s highly coveted properties in South Beach are a great visitation spot and the culture of south Florida runs rich in this area.

There are a ton of benefits to visiting Miami in general, but visiting during January is especially nice.

January Weather:

Usually Florida is known for it’s summer storms. Quite often when visiting in the summer months of June, July, and August you will not have a single afternoon outside to relax and soak up the sun.

Thunderstorms roll into much of Florida in the afternoons, and you end up blasted with rain and lightning.

This isn’t very attractive for those trying to take a swim in the ocean or hangout by the pool. Considering these are some of the main things to do in Miami Beach traveling here during these summer months can really kill your mojo.

In addition to being stuck inside on your vacation, you’ll quickly realize that flying into Miami in this sort of weather is less than ideal. Flights can easily be delayed, you can be stuck in a holding pattern for hours, or maybe you’ll just be trapped in the airport with no luggage until the thunderstorm lets up enough for the airport staff to unload.

All of these things lead to January. Since Florida is generally a tropical climate, it doesn’t get very cold in Miami Beach. In the middle of January you actually see some of the driest times of the year.

The precipitation levels in January on average come in around 2″. This is extremely low considering if you were to visit in June you would expect closer to 8-9″ of rainfall.

In addition to the nice dry air during January, you generally see moderate temperatures that keep you just warm enough to take a dip in the ocean. The average for January pushes a beautiful 74 degrees F. This is perfect weather for relaxing. Since you’re on vacation I’m guessing this is your goal.

Cost of Visit:

The cost of staying in Miami Beach per night can range from around $175-$500 depending on the exact location of the resort and the amenities you require from the hotel.

If you aren’t after marble floors and all the luxury goods then you can most certainly stay at one of the main hotel chain resorts like the Hilton Garden Inn just blocks away from the historical Miami Architecture District.

Things to Do:

Rent a Boat or Jet Skis. The very first thing you should do in Miami is get in the water. Everyone in South Florida loves their boats. You may as well experience this place like a local. So grab yourself a boat from one of the many boat rental companies in Miami Beach and get out on the ocean.

If you would rather be a jet skier, then that’s fine too. Since Miami Beach doesn’t have huge waves it won’t be so exhausting to cruise up and down the coastline either.

Go Shopping. Lincoln Avenue is one of the most historical shopping destinations out there. If you’ve been needing to treat yourself to something nice for a while and the vacation just isn’t doing it for you, then you definitely want to cruise down here and explore all the awesome shops.

Hit a Club or a Beach Bar. Whether you are a big drinker or not, you should at least check one of these places out. Miami Beach is home to some of the best nightlife. This especially holds true during the summer, but January is no slouch. Since the temperatures in January only see the lower end of the 60s many people are still out at night exploring this city.

In addition, the beach bars during the day are boisterous and fun. Even if you just want to catch lunch and not explore the wide variety of cocktails on the menus the local beach bars are the place to go. I personally suggest hitting The Broken Shaker, it’s my favorite cocktail bar.

Explore the Beautiful Architecture of the Art Deco Historic District. I know I mentioned this earlier in the post, but you wouldn’t believe your eyes with all the colors this place boasts at night time. During the day it is an awesome sight, but cruise down to this district in the evening or night and check out the lights. I purposefully didn’t share a photo here, see it for yourself!

What Is The Best Way To Promote Your Website?

I know that when you are first starting out it seems like traffic to your website cannot come soon enough. You want to do everything in your power to promote your website and start making money.

Many people don’t see the results they are looking for with a new website until about the three to six month window. This seems like forever when you are working on a new site every single day and spending countless hours grinding and trying to find traffic.

Here’s the ugly truth, you aren’t going to magically see traffic overnight.

I do have to say there are people out there with millions of social media followers, but you are likely not them or you wouldn’t be here reading about the best way to promote your website.

You would instead be already posting your site on this social media account and bankrolling on the traffic influx you would already be seeing.

I’ve tried and failed with so many different outlets…

I have spent countless hours on this subject, and have also spent more money than I would care to admit prematurely promoting a website.

If there is one thing I can tell you, premature promotion of your site will get you nowhere. You will spend all of your spare time checking analytics and trying to figure out why you aren’t seeing the conversions you think you should be seeing.

Promotion is easier for me because I have all my social media sites setup already. Usually I can promote one site through another more stable site. However, I am assuming you don’t have this luxury.

In order to effectively promote your site, I can really only suggest one thing. Create engaging, quality content.

By creating quality posts consistently you will begin to solidify your keyword base. This leads directly into effective SEO.

Search engine optimization is what will be the key factor for promoting your site. You want that organic traffic that visits your site because they searched for the exact keywords you have written around. This is what will create conversions and contribute directly to monetizing your website.

In addition to creating the building blocks for a high converting site, you will have tons more ideas for content creation and expansion in the future. This is all because you have created a content base that people will begin to get curious about.

When people become curious, they start to ask questions. Go back through older posts. See what sort of questions you can come up with that you have not covered in a previous post, and answer that question in the next post you write!

This is a great way to cover all aspects of a particular category within your site.

I would encourage you to take advantage of the free advertising sources you already have.

One of the best tools out there are your friends and family. These are the people that want you to succeed. Don’t be scared to share your shiny new website with these folks. They are going to be your biggest proponents and will begin to share your content naturally also.

If you really start to engage them, you will also have a general idea of what type of content works for the majority of people reading that style of website.

I personally have been very timid about sharing my websites with friends and family. It can be scary to let people in on your secret, especially when you are affiliate marketing. Some people won’t approve. To those naysayers, I say remove yourself from my news feed!

The point here is to never let a couple negative people discourage you from sharing content. If you are receiving flack from people on posts that you’ve written to really help provide information to the world, then the people dishing this out are not your true friends.

Every single one of my friends have reacted positively to my postings. They have all been genuinely excited that I am pursuing such a great opportunity online, and they have all been genuinely excited when I report back to them the great successes that I experience every day in this marketplace.

Make sure you exhaust every single social media market out there.

Use all of your social accounts, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, and whatever else you may have that I can’t think of off the top of my head.

I know all of this seems like a ton of work… It is. No one told you that you weren’t going to have to put in some time and effort to create a successful online business. If they did tell you that, they were lying, and they were probably trying to scam you out of your hard earned money.

However, we know that your follower base is different on every single site. This means that different people are seeing your content when you post it on different social media pages. This leads to more unique users, and more unique shares.

Your friends probably have vastly different networks also, so if two different friends share your content, you are likely going to see very different reactions from their respective networks. This is great for promotion as you are reaching a much broader audience.

The main thing here is that you should be focusing on content creation. Your site will begin to naturally promote itself through Google, Bing, and Yahoo search engines as your site becomes more credible.

How I Got Started With Jaaxy

When I first joined Wealthy Affiliate in 2016, I was new to the concept of keyword research, SEO optimization, and really how to write keyword based content.

I had always wondered how people came up with such catchy titles, or maybe it wasn’t so catchy and was worded in a particular way that I wouldn’t have necessarily worded it myself.

Well, that’s keywords for you. I personally never go out of my way to change my content to fit my keywords as much as I create a title and then check out how much organic traffic it is estimated to drive to my website.

After being a member of Wealthy Affiliate for a few months and blowing through some great coursework (There’s a reason WA is the number one platform for digital entrepreneurs on the internet) I stumbled upon Jaaxy.

Don’t get me wrong the integrated keyword tool in Wealthy Affiliate helped a great deal in the early stages, but as your website becomes more developed and you start creating more and more content, you will be looking for an upgrade.

This is exactly what happened to me. As my websites have grown over time, and I’ve learned to develop my thoughts more completely, my keyword research has needed improvement.

Key Points About Keywords

First off, keywords are important. Keywords are essentially what a search engine looks for inside your content when someone searches within that engine.

Example… Imagine you head over to Google and type in “Best Keyword Tool For Affiliates”… What will likely pop up is this page because it is titled based on those particular keywords.

This is precisely how you drive traffic to your page, and probably the reason that you are reading this article now.

Second, there are some very particular methods to selecting the right keywords for your post.

I know when you are first building your sites credibility you will want to essentially snag all the low hanging fruit within your niche.

Look for keywords that you can write around that aren’t overly populated with competition.

Lastly, make sure that these key words are still searched for regularly.

If you can identify the amount of searches per month, and how much traffic that keyword will drive to your site that month, then and only then should you use that keyword.

Some Important Keyword Criteria

If you are looking for specific keyword criteria, as a beginner you should stick to those keywords that generally have a high search rating, maybe 300+ searches per month.

This is easy to find as people are searching things 24 hours a day 7 days a week from all over the world…so often times even strange keywords will have 300+ searches monthly.

The most important aspect of your keyword research, however, is the level of competition you are up against.

If you are just beginning your site, chances are you are not smashing the ranks of Google just yet. This is fine, but this is also why you need low QSR (Quote Search Results) for that individual keyword set.

Low QSR means lower competition, and this means more clicks for your website. Clicks lead to conversions and the rest is money making history.

I would have to say that quality keywords are probably one of the top three factors relevant to monetizing your website.

Self Education vs College

Do you wonder whether you need college to become a successful person?

The short answer is no, not necessarily. Let’s talk about why this is true.

I want to outline to you some of the best self-education tools out there, and also stress the importance of college at the same time.

Self Education

There are pros and cons to pretty much every decision you make in life. Let’s examine the pros and cons of self education.

Pros:

Learn the information you find relevant. Learn what pertains to you, not all the fluff. Learning relevant information will improve performance in that niche.
Work at your own pace. You don’t have to blaze through a chapter of material in one week. This allows you to truly absorb the material.
You can learn as much or as little as you want. This allows you to focus your learning on Quality over Quantity.
The cost of self education can be extremely cheap. Most self-education resources are free, and some are much cheaper than a tuition payment.

Cons:

You have to stay self-motivated. For some people this is easy to manage, but for many, it is easy to ignore your educational responsibilities.
No structure. The lack of structure or planning in self-education can be a huge deterrent. Often times you will find yourself jumping from topic to topic with no rhyme or reason.
Filtering quality resources. Sometimes you can’t tell whether or not a resource is a quality resource. Everyone can learn from Wikipedia, but that doesn’t mean that it is providing you with true and correct information.
Opinions over facts. Most self-education systems are put in place to learn about things that you don’t really learn about in college. This can mean that there is a large amount of opinion associated with your learning.

College

Just as there are pros and cons with self-education, the same applies to college.

Pros:

Structured learning process. You will be learning within a program that has been well established and is structured in order to propel you to the next level of learning.
Networking. Networking in college can be one of the biggest benefits of attending. Building a system of peers and colleagues can lead to job opportunities or growth opportunities in a particular industry.
Proven track record. Usually a university or college is accredited. Therefore there coursework is proven.
A degree helps. Higher paying jobs generally require some sort of specialization. This is true even in a manual labor sense. If you attend college you are likely to find a higher paying day job.
Entertainment value. You can’t deny that college is usually a blast. If you don’t attend a commuter school there are tons of opportunities to get involved in your college community and truly make it a well-rounded experience.

Cons:

Cost. Colleges and Universities are steadily increasing tuition. Often times many cannot afford to attend prestigious universities. This causes less likelihood of your degree paying off in the future.
Time to learn. Usually with structured programs, there is a designated amount of time you are stuck there. While this can be good, the pace isn’t left up to you. This forces you to learn at their pace, and can actually waste time or cause poor performance.
This isn’t the environment for the entrepreneur. If you want to learn how to be an entrepreneur you have to be self-taught to an extent. College doesn’t generally teach you the stuff behind being dedicated to your own business.

The Best Option For You?

I have personal experience with both self-education and college. I have attended a 4-year university and obtained my undergraduate degree in engineering. In addition, I am completing my graduate degree in mechanical engineering in the near future.

I can tell you, college will set you up for success when you self-educate post college.

I learned a lot in college, and everyone’s experience is different. However, I do know the most important thing I learned. I do understand what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur and I have to say college did contribute to this.

Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Skills… The absolute most important thing I ever learned at a university was how to think critically and solve problems.

Setting up problems takes structure, and self-education may not direct you down the path of structure. This is why I find a university education to be extremely important.

Granted…you can learn structure on your own, and how to solve problems, or at least methods to solving problems. The problem with this path though, is that you are not faced with the same complicated variety of problems that you face in college.

Self-Education still has its place…

In order to get the most out of your college education, you must continue to learn. Ian Leslie’s book Curious is one of my favorites. He relates success to your desire to know.

If you are pushing yourself down a path of self education then you obviously have the desire to learn and know more. This is the desire that will make you a successful entrepreneur.

What you want to learn is completely up to you. Whether you want to learn a specific trade, how to market to a particular audience online, how to build your own successful brick and mortar business…whatever your passion may be, there are resources out there for you.

My personal favorite resource is one that I use daily. My self-education is perpetuated by the drive to understand everything there is about online digital marketing.

I learn more every day about catering to audiences and building the best possible site available to users. Digital marketing is nothing like what I studied in college, so I am forced to use the skills developed in college to educate myself on the tricks of the trade.

My Conclusion

I think the best option for you… is a combination of college and self-education. Both have their benefits as outlined above, and when combined these two forms of education become a force like no other.

You are taught how to learn, study, and develop skills in college that will allow you to make a living. However, you must further your education after learning these skills in order to make a fortune.

Rags to Riches

A lot of people that visit Incite Wealth are looking for a way to escape their day job. A lot of times these people are broke. That word shouldn’t scare you or hurt your feelings, I’ve been broke myself.

There was a point in time in college where I was buying bags of frozen chicken and 11-12 lb bags of rice because it was the cheapest thing I could eat.

This was an important time in my life, because learning how to sustain myself when I was broke has allowed me to be a smarter spender now that I have attained a bit of financial freedom.

Let’s talk about some of the pitfalls that keep your every day person from becoming a millionaire…

Over Spending

This is probably the biggest problem I see with your average person. This is especially a problem for those that are broke. Those broke people will never be rich.

Spending more than you earn, or spending more than necessary is something that many people have been brainwashed to believe is okay.

I’m here to tell you that this is not the case. Over spending will singlehandedly keep you from becoming a millionaire and I will guarantee that.

How many people do you know that are buried in debt?

It doesn’t matter what kind of debt, it can be credit card debt (the most common), over extended auto loans, or tons of student loans.

No matter the type of debt, it restricts people from obtaining their financial goals. The modern mentality promotes this lifestyle. There is a perpetual belief that leveraging your credit is the only way to have the things you want. False. Pay cash like I do. (P.S. It feels good to walk into a dealership and drop cash on a desk.)

Do not over spend. Eventually any money that you DO earn will have to contribute to repaying your debts and you will never get ahead. You will never be able to invest in real estate, or invest in your online business, or become a successful entrepreneur.

Lifestyle Inflation

So maybe you have achieved some success in your life already. Maybe you are here just to increase this success.

However, are you allowing your lifestyle to be inflated because you make a few more bucks? If you are spending more because you make more, you are contributing to your own financial failure and you don’t even realize it.

I understand the desires for a Luxury Lifestyle. I too live a little bit of a luxury lifestyle, but I have worked my way up to that by living below my means for as long as I can remember.

If you don’t know what I mean when I talk about lifestyle inflation… let me explain:

Say you currently drive a 2010 Toyota Corolla, and it gets you from point A to B, it’s reliable, low maintenance, has low enough mileage, and it’s paid off.

Now, you get a raise at your day job…Say this adds an extra 5k a year to your income (maybe that’s a bit high but you get it). Now you take that extra 5k a year, run out and buy a brand new BMW.

You have now taken on a car payment, violating rule number one and putting yourself in unnecessary debt. You have also just committed direct lifestyle inflation (yes this is a crime while you are building your empire).

The BMW is the exact same thing as your Corolla, it’s reliable, low maintenance, has low mileage…but it is NOT paid off.

That 5k a year could be contributing to an investment of some sort. If you were to put it towards your entrepreneurial endeavors this could turn into more money! People often blow their tax return in the same fashion…See my article on what to do with your tax returns to learn about proper investment opportunities.

Many people don’t realize that they are holding themselves back financially by inflating their lifestyle. They begin to buy flashier things because they value instant gratification over the long term benefits.

The truth is… you can leave below your means… you were likely broke at one point, and living like your broke when you aren’t is the key!

Avoiding These Pitfalls

I know some of these habits are easy to fall into so I have a couple options for you to remain consistent with your spending. This will benefit you when you do become rich, so start now…

Create a solid budget and stick to it. You likely have a budget when you’re broke because you have no choice. Good. Create a broke person budget, and hold true to this broke person budget until you are no longer broke.
Use my 5-10% Rule. The 5-10% Rule essentially means that you whatever increase you see in salary or general/passive income, you only increase your spending by 5-10% of that increase. Therefore, if your income increases by $1,000 a year, you only spend $50-$100 more per year.
Remind yourself of the necessities. I personally have a list of necessities pinned to my bulletin board in my bedroom. This list is of the things that I ACTUALLY NEED. Create your own list (be honest) and I think you will be surprised at how few things you need to sustain yourself.
Pursue your dreams. I lied when I said I don’t increase my spending significantly. Sometimes I increase my spending by the entire amount of my income increase. This spending, however, is directly reinvested in my business endeavors. Usually this income increase comes from these businesses, so an appropriate use of these funds is scaling up.

What’s left?

Get Rich…

This will not happen overnight. If you are conscious of your spending however, and you learn how to spend like a broke person than your path to riches will be much shorter and less stressful.

I personally had a lot of outstanding debt because I have made these mistakes myself. Guess what I had to do with all of my online revenue? Payoff my debt.

Now that I live debt free I spend like I am still eating chicken and rice every day, and the rest is invested in business. This is why I’m successful, and this is why it will be easy for you to be a success as well.

Remember:

Rich people stay rich because they keep their money or use it to make more.

Ditch The Negative Mentality

If you have ever had a negative attitude about your finances or your abilities… get rid of it right now. If you are unmotivated and you can’t see yourself as being successful in the future, your thought process is all wrong.

Matthew McConaughey said in his famous Oscar acceptance speech that his hero was himself in 10 years. I encourage you to listen to it here. Be your own hero in ten years, strive for greatness, and don’t stop until you achieve it. When you hit that ten year mark, you should have a new hero… That hero? You in ten more years…

A negative mentality will get you nowhere in life, those who succeed travel down a road paved with failure. No successful entrepreneur that I have personally spoken to has described to me a path filled with daisies and butterflies.

All of these people were up late, grinding away, becoming more and more passionate about their dreams every day they worked towards them. When they failed, they didn’t quit, and now they have achieved great success.

Find A Passion

I personally know people that have created a steady income from video games. They can film themselves playing video games on YouTube and bankroll. If that doesn’t sound like a good gig to you, I don’t know what does.

The point is, these people are passionate about what they are doing. Do you think someone would want to play video games on YouTube for people if they didn’t love to play video games? Do you think I would write about the pursuit of happiness and wealth if I didn’t love the direction my own life is heading in?

Be passionate about whatever it is that you want in life. Make sure to revolve your online presence around your passion as well. I personally have a passion for fitness and have since started a page involving healthy habits and a fit lifestyle.

The reason that this is a successful web endeavor is because I genuinely love helping people reach their goals. Whether those goals be mental health, physical health, nutritional goals, or financial goals, I want to see people succeeding all around me.

Stay Away From The Scam Artists

These days it is so tough to see past all the fluff that is out there. Every single day I see people getting suckered into these MLM schemes, which I wrote about in one of my recent articles here.

In addition to these online schemes you have all these people selling you “digital content” that is supposed to help you become rich in 5 easy steps, or build wealth while doing absolutely nothing.

Well… welcome to the real world. While you can do it for FREE, you can’t do it without putting in some hard work and dedication. You ever heard the saying you get out what you put in? That’s still the truth today, even on the internet. The fact is, I haven’t found the magic shortcut, but I have figured out how to reduce the learning curve significantly.

Understand that this is a new age… you don’t have to spend a ton of money to make money! Quit letting people lie to your face and tell you that you need to buy a particular product in order to generate your own revenue. That is an absolute BS statement that these people sell you just to convince you to buy their useless products.

With all the free resources for building websites, blogging, and learning out there today… you don’t have to pay a dime to get started.

Take Those First Steps

Not many people out there can say that they learned to walk before they could crawl. Yes there are a few, but they are an anomaly.

I am always reading about people within the Wealthy Affiliate community that have struggled for up to a year before seeing a real positive income come from their online endeavors.
